The Bible Directory is operated by The Bible Directory LLC. In this policy, “The Bible Directory,” “we,” and “us” refer to The Bible Directory LLC and the website it operates.

Information you choose to provide

If you create an account, subscribe for email updates, leave a comment, save study material while signed in, or contact The Bible Directory, the information you provide may include your name, display name, email address, account information, study material, and message.

Email subscriptions

If you subscribe, your email address is used to send the reading invitations and site updates described beside the signup form. MailPoet and the site’s configured email-delivery service provide subscription, confirmation, delivery, subscriber-management, and unsubscribe tools. You can unsubscribe through the link included in an email. To avoid repeatedly showing the same invitation, the site remembers an awaiting-confirmation request in your browser for up to 24 hours and a recognized subscription for up to one year.

Private study material and reading progress

Chapter notes, verse notes, highlights, bookmarks, and reading progress are designed as private study features and are not posted to the public discussion. If you are not signed in, this material is stored in your browser and may be accessible to another person using the same browser or device. If you are signed in, it may also be stored with your site account so it can sync across devices. You can edit, download, or delete study material through My Study. Synchronized study material is also included in applicable WordPress personal-data exports.

Comments

Comments are public. A comment and its associated display name may be seen by anyone visiting the page. The site may also process the information entered in the comment form along with technical information such as IP address and browser data for security, moderation, and spam prevention. An email address supplied for comment administration is not displayed publicly.

Comment reactions, reports, and moderation records

Signed-in account holders may mark a public comment as useful or report it by selecting a concern category. To prevent duplicate or abusive activity, the site keeps a salted one-way identifier derived from the acting account together with the useful reaction or report category. The identifier is not displayed publicly and is used for counting, ranking, moderation, and rate limiting. Report counts do not automatically remove a comment; an authorized moderator reviews the context.

Cookies and site technology

The site and its WordPress components may use cookies, browser local storage, or similar technologies for essential site functions, account sessions, preferences, security, comments, private study features, reading progress, and remembering email-signup status. Clearing browser data can remove information stored only on that device. Additional analytics or services, if enabled, may use their own technologies according to their privacy terms.

Service providers

The Bible Directory uses WordPress.com, Jetpack, and related hosting, security, subscription, and spam-prevention services. These providers may process technical or personal information as needed to operate their services under their own privacy terms.

External resources

The Bible Directory links to museums, universities, libraries, scholarly projects, and other third-party websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Following an external link takes you outside The Bible Directory.

How information is used

Information is used to provide requested features, operate accounts and private study tools, deliver requested emails, respond to communications, support and moderate discussions, maintain security, prevent spam, and improve the service. The Bible Directory does not currently sell personal information.

Anonymous exploration analytics

The site counts selected actions—including chapter openings, return visits, use of the Chapter Compass, World Behind, reading skills, Hebrew word pages, private-note tools, email signup, account creation, chapter questions, and research sources—to understand which parts of the site are useful. These records contain the action type, a general label or destination when applicable, page path, and time. They do not contain an IP address, account identifier, email address, search term, or private study content. The return-visit count uses a date stored in the browser and reports only a broad time range, not a browser identifier. Event-level records are automatically removed after approximately thirteen months.

Retention and your choices

Information is kept for as long as reasonably needed to provide the feature, maintain the site, enforce community standards, meet legal obligations, or resolve disputes. Browser-only information remains until it expires or is cleared. Public comments and associated moderation records may remain with the discussion unless they are removed. You may unsubscribe from emails at any time and may request access, correction, or deletion of applicable account, comment, or submission information.
